Dear SDMA Families and Staff,

Tonight the school board approved an update to the SDMA COVID-19 Plan that will require the use of masks for all students in grades K-6 until students in those grade levels have the opportunity to become fully vaccinated.

Students in grades K-6 are expected to wear masks beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 27, but some grace will be extended to students this week as families may need to obtain masks and talk with their children about the new expectations. A limited number of masks will be available at SDMA schools, but it will be the responsibility of families to provide children with masks.

A date for children under 12 years old to become eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine has not yet been set, but it is anticipated that this may occur during the next few weeks. Additional communication will be shared with families when more information becomes available.

Please note that the district has no current plans to require SDMA students to be vaccinated, and if community transmission of COVID-19 drops prior to students having the opportunity to become fully vaccinated, the Board may revisit this decision.

Thank you.
