Dear SDMA Families and Staff, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the School District of the Menomonie Area! Thanksgiving break in the SDMA begins tonight and classes will resume on Monday, December 2.

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, Congratulations on completing a terrific first quarter of the 2024-25 school year! There are many wonderful student accomplishments to celebrate. In addition to the SDMA Highlight on Youth reports shared with the school board this fall (September, October, and November), other notable accomplishments from the beginning of the 2024-25 school year include:

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, It has been an eventful week in the School District of the Menomonie Area, and it is only Wednesday! In addition to many wonderful classroom activities and a number of fun homecoming events, the district also had to work through the previously noted security issue at MHS, and a traffic accident yesterday afternoon involving a school bus.

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, The 2024-25 school year is off to a great start! Thank you to everyone who has helped children in the SDMA get into routines for another school year. The beginning of the school year is an exciting time in our schools and community. In addition to many fun classroom lessons, many of our students are involved in various school and community activities.

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, The start of the 2024-25 school year is rapidly approaching. Over the next week, boxholders in the SDMA will be receiving a Back to School Newsletter (click the link for the digital version). Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 28, while the K-8 Meet & Greet Day and Freshman First Day will be held on Tuesday, August 27.

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, It has been a terrific final month in the School District of the Menomonie Area. Please check out the May Highlight on Youth Report that was shared during Monday's school board meeting. There are only a couple weeks left in the 2023-24 school year. This year's graduation ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 26 in the Menomonie High School Gymnasium. Congratulations to the senior class and all of the families who will be celebrating this terrific accomplishment.

As you know, the School District of the Menomonie Area is approaching a difficult budget situation. Expenses in the SDMA are projected to exceed revenues allowed by the state, so beginning with next school year, the school district will be operating with a budget deficit. The chart below illustrates a projected operating budget deficit that begins next year at $3.4 million and grows to $5.3 million by 2029. Without additional revenue or reductions to the budget, the district's operating fund balance is projected to drop from $16.4 million to -$5.3 million during that time.
