Have you ever looked up something in an encyclopedia or used a dictionary to find the spelling or meaning of a word? When was the last time you used “long division” instead of pulling out the calculator on your phone? Do your kids or grandkids even know what an encyclopedia, dictionary, or thesaurus are?

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, Work continues in the School District of the Menomonie Area to understand the possible impact of several new executive orders and other federal directives on our students, educators, and school programs. School officials are collaborating with state and federal agencies, and with other external partners to understand the impacts, and we are closely monitoring this situation.

A number of executive orders were signed by President Trump this week that impact schools all across the United States, including schools in the School District of the Menomonie Area (SDMA).

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, This evening, the National Weather Service changed the forecast and called an Extreme Cold Warning for the entire area until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. All schools in the SDMA will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Dear SDMA Faculty and Staff, Welcome to the second semester of the 2024-25 school year! While the first semester started off with some very hot weather conditions, our community is now experiencing the other end of the temperature spectrum. When outdoor temperatures become extreme on either side of the thermometer, questions naturally arise about possible school closures.

Even though temperatures have dipped a bit this week, it has been nice to see the sun and notice how the days are starting to get a bit longer. Spring break is less than nine weeks away!

The updated strategic plan will be created with input from staff, families, students, and community members, and it will serve as a roadmap to heighten excellence in our school community.
