The process for creating the next state biennial budget is underway in Madison. Lawmakers will be working over the next few months to determine how the State of Wisconsin will allocate funding for the next two years. Budgets are about priorities, and now is a critical time to contact state legislators and let them know about the importance of making a greater investment in our public schools.

Planning is well underway in the School District of the Menomonie Area for the 2025-26 school year. The preliminary budget is being built and the process of creating class schedules and hiring staff for next year has already started. While every school year has some unique scheduling challenges, the school board is currently facing a very difficult decision. The School District of the Menomonie Area (SDMA) might need to close Downsville Elementary School.

Dear SDMA Families and Staff, Work continues in the School District of the Menomonie Area to understand the possible impact of several new executive orders and other federal directives on our students, educators, and school programs. School officials are collaborating with state and federal agencies, and with other external partners to understand the impacts, and we are closely monitoring this situation.

A number of executive orders were signed by President Trump this week that impact schools all across the United States, including schools in the School District of the Menomonie Area (SDMA).
