Dear SDMA Families and Staff,
Thank you for a terrific first quarter of the 2023-2024 school year! Here is a link to the October Highlight on Youth report, and listed below are some reminders and additional information for families and staff:
●SDMA Performing Arts- there are some great opportunities in November to see our talented Menomonie students performing on the stage. Don't miss our MMS students in "Murder by Indecision" at the Mabel Tainter Theater this weekend and high school students performing "Into the Woods" at MHS next week.
●Daylight Savings Time- please remember that daylight savings time ends this weekend, so clocks will need to be turned back one hour on Saturday night.
●Parent/Teacher Conferences- it was great to see so many parents participate in parent-teacher conferences over the past few weeks. The next round of parent-teacher conferences will not occur until second semester, but please do not hesitate to reach out to your child(ren)'s teachers if you have any questions or concerns before then.
●District Calendar- please note that there will be no school in the SDMA during the week of Thanksgiving (November 20-24). Good luck to all deer hunters and please be safe.
●Preparing for Winter Weather- hopefully this winter will be a bit more mild with less disruptions to the school calendar. After piloting remote learning days last school year, the district may opt to use remote learning days for some cancellations in 2023-2024. Attached are the SDMA Remote Learning Day Protocols that were reviewed by the school board on September 25, 2023.
●Staffing- the SDMA is currently looking to fill some paraeducator positions at the elementary and high school levels. This is a great opportunity to hold a job that aligns well with school hours and the school district calendar. Being a paraeducator is a terrific opportunity to work with students in the SDMA. Please contact HR Director Samantha Hoyt ([email protected]) for more information.
●SDMA Referendum- thank you to everyone who has participated in the district's referendum survey. The school board will be reviewing the survey results on November 16 and considering a referendum resolution by the end of the month. Here is a link to some recent news coverage about the possible referendum, and more information can be found in the Referendum Guide that is posted on the district website.
There is no doubt that the month of November is going to fly by in the School District of the Menomonie Area. Even though Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the students, teachers, staff and family members who make our school district and community such a great place to work and live.
Happy (early) Thanksgiving!
Joe Zydowsky
