Attention Students:  A reminder that we will be conducting a school safety drill at some time today, March 10th.  We will be practicing the “barricade” scenario which you heard about in your CARES class in recent weeks.  We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the safety of our middle school community.

Calling all yearbook staff!  We are having our last meeting tonight from 3 – 4:30 pm in the computer lab.  Please come and help design our last several pages.

Congratulations to all students who auditioned for the spring musical!  Cast members – don’t forget we have the read – through today, March 10th, from 3 – 4:15 pm, followed by the parent meeting.  If you and your parent cannot attend, you must talk to Ms. Beckman or Mrs. Enyeart today.

It is that time of year again when the Menomonie Optimist Club hosts the Optimist International Oratorical Contest in hopes on having one of our Dunn County students bring home the District’s $2,500 Scholarship.  This year the judges at the District Competition will also choose one speaker to compete at the very first International Oratorical Contest June 23rd and 24th.  The winner at the International Contest is $15,000 scholarship!  Wouldn’t that be a great way to pave the path to college!  You can pick up an information sheet and application in the front office.  Applications are due March 25th, 2016.

Parents/Guardians:  The following was sent out via Skylert.

Good evening.  March 10, MMS will be conducting a school safety drill for all staff and students.  Students are aware we will be having a drill March 10th, however the time of the drill has not been announced to students and staff.  We will again remind students of the upcoming drill during tomorrow morning's announcements.  At the time of the drill, we will make multiple announcements letting the students know we are conducting a drill only.  The drill will be approximately 15 minutes in length and will be supervised by MMS Administration, Buildings & Grounds Director Mike Meyers, and School Resource Officer Chris King.

In recent weeks our student body has been introduced to the ALICE school safety protocols during their morning CARES classes.  Students have watched a video introducing them to the ALICE concepts along with discussions with their teachers.  MMS staff have done a fantastic job of taking a very challenging topic and presenting in to our students in an age-appropriate manner.  Unfortunately, our students are growing up during a time when violent acts occurring in public venues has become too common.  They understand the necessity of taking protective measures that are not only applicable to schools, but to any public venue where they could encounter an armed intruder.   For this specific drill, students will be practicing "barricading" of their classrooms.  Thank you for everything you do in keeping our schools safe.
