MMS Daily Announcements - Monday, March 4, 2019
Published on Mar 4, 2019 08:58

Reminder to Parents:  Our new start time is 7:38am.  Students are expected to be in class and ready to learn at 7:38am.  Breakfast is served starting at 7:15 am.  Please make sure your children are arriving to school to make it to class on time.  Beginning today, we will be adding an additional 5 minutes on to the end of the day.  The dismissal time will be 3:05 pm.

We are still having many students come in late.  The morning drop off line can be very long and congested when everyone comes at 7:30am.  Dropping your students off a bit earlier will help with this.  To help you get through the line easier, drop off your student between 7:10 – 7:20.

Hoops for Hearts:  Did you know that about 600,000 people die of heart disease in the US every year – that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women.  Please help to raise awareness by donating to the American Heart Association.  Hoops for Heart Basketball tourney will begin this Wednesday in PE class.

Spring League Volleyball:  Any 6th – 8th grade girls interested in Spring League Volleyball may pick up a form in the front office.  There will be an evaluation period on March 4th & 5th from 6-8 pm in the High School Gym.  For more information or questions email [email protected].

Quote of the Week:  Nothing worth having was ever achieved without effort. – Theodore Roosevelt

Effort:  Success is determined by effort.

WEB AND CELL PHONE SAFETY- Did you know an 18-year -old that “sexts” can be arrested for possessing child porn? At this session, you’ll learn about the new Menomonie Sexting Ordinance plus web-based issues of concern including un-safe aps and sex trafficking plus what concerned adults can do to help lessen the risks.

MOCK DRUG ROOM- Learn to recognize items that might mean a teen is using alcohol or other drugs [hidden compartments, paraphernalia, clothing and logos, posters, magazines and more] plus how to respond if you find the items in a child’s room, car or backpack and local resources that can offer help.

Note- Sessions on these two topics will be held on a rotating basis, with Q&A between each session. Interested adults can attend one or both sessions.

OTHER RESOURCES- Information will be available on other issues of concern, including the frightening increase of e-cigs by teens, plus suggestions of how adults can talk with youth about these issues and local resources that can provide help.
