Black Leaders of WI:  We are sponsoring a celebration and education night, Tuesday, February 27, from 6:30 – 8 pm in the MMS Cafeteria.  All are welcome.  We will have some great food and hear from and officer and professor.

 

Menomonie Public Library:  The Menomonie Public Library is inviting you to do the unthinkable:  cut, tear, fold, and rip books.  At the Upcycled Book Craft Event, you can take old books and make them into something new and awesome!  You can make creations like book hedgehogs and more on Thursday, Feb. 22nd at 4:30 pm at the Menomonie Public Library.

 

SHAKE IT TO END DUCHENE:  Zumba Party!  Saturday, February 24th, 9-10:30 am at Menomonie High School.  Check in begins at 8:30 am.  Come early, buy a t-shirt and join the pre-party.  No registration required – any donation amount accepted and appreciated.

 

Yearbook:  February 23rd is the last day to purchase a yearbook!  Note that students do not have school on the 22nd or 23rd.  All orders are preferred to be purchased online at jostensyearbooks.com.  Order forms will be available during parent/teacher conferences, if you are unable to order online.  Purchase price is $25.  There may not be any extra yearbooks available in May so please pre-purchase your copy now!  8th graders, this is your last opportunity to remember your middle school years, don’t forget to purchase a yearbook by February 23rd.

Celebrate Black History Month:  James Baldwin was an essayist, playwright and novelist regarded as a highly insightful, iconic writer with works like The Fire Next Time and Another Country. 

Born in 1924 in New York City, James Baldwin published the 1953 novel Go Tell It on the Mountain, going onto garner acclaim for his insights on race, spirituality and humanity.

Other novels included Giovanni’s room, Another Country and Just Above My Head as well as essay works like Notes of a Native Son and The Fire Next Time.  Having lined in France, he died on December 1, 1987 in Saint-Paul de Vence.

Spring Play Auditions:  Mark your calendar!  Auditions for the spring play, Singin’ in the Rain, are scheduled for March 5th and 6th.  More information, including songs and scenes to practice before audition, and form to sign up for your time, are available on the MMS Drama website.  For more information, see Mrs. Enyeart.

Book Fair:  The Scholastic Book Fair will be open from Tuesday, February 13th to Wednesday, February 21st.  You can visit the book fair before/after school, during lunch and at parent/teacher conferences.
