Young Writer’s Showcase:  Congratulations to two of our aspiring young authors from the 8^th grade.  Tareka Jones & Schurell Ehn had their stories chosen for the Young Writer’s Showcase competition in Eau Claire this past weekend.  Tareka read her story, “My Best Friend is a Vampire” and Schurell read her story, “Mystery in the Valley” at the Chippewa Valley Book Festival’s Young Writer’s Showcase in Eau Claire on Sunday.  Menomonie Middle School was proud to have these two talented writers share their stories at the festival.

Girls Swim:  There will be a meeting for all girls interested in swim on Monday, October 30^th at 3:15 pm in the commons.  Please have parents pick you up by 4:00 pm on Monday.  Swim will begin in the pool on Tuesday, October 31^st, from 3:15 – 4:15 pm.  Please have all paperwork turned into the office prior to Monday.

Singing in Wisconsin:  All choir students participating in Singing in Wisconsin see Mrs. Enyeart immediately following announcements this morning.

FCA:  Reminder FCA meeting tomorrow in the General Music room at 6:50 am.  We meet every 2^nd &4^th Wednesday of the month.

Cross Country:  Congratulations to the girls and boys cross country team who finished their season last night at their home meet.  Eighty-four runners ran season and lifetime personal bests.  The entire season’s results are posted by the locker rooms.  The girls defended their home course, and won with their best score of the season.  The boys placed 5^th with their best score of the season, placing 4 runners in the top 20.

Responsibility:  The word of the week is responsibility.  Be a good role model with your thoughts and actions:  be on time, be prepared, be honest and trustworthy.

Smart Girls Rock:  Any girls who attended Smart Girls Rock and have not written a “thank you” note, please see Ms. Yonash to get a card.

Gymnastics:  The gymnastics meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, October 30^th, because of the dance Thursday.  If you signed up for gymnastics you should be at the meeting next Monday right after school.  If you have not turned in your paperwork, please get all paperwork turned into the office before or by Monday, October 30^th.  Practice starts November 2.

MMS Dance:  It’s DANCE time!  Yes, that’s right.  The first dance of the school year is coming up.  It will be Thursday, October 26^th after school from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.  The theme of the dance is NEON.  Come dressed in your bright colors or just come in any color.  Cost is $4.00.  Check out the posters around the school for more information.

Rock-tober is also SOCK-tober:  Join FCCLS in our efforts to collect needed items for the C-s Center and Stepping Stones homeless shelter.  Imagine living through our harsh Wisconsin winter without basic necessities like socks and a warm jacket!  From October 5^th – 25^th FCCLA will be collecting NEW socks and new/slightly used winter gear like coats, hats and mittens.  Our community has great needs, but you can enter yourself into a raffle drawing for one of some awesome prizes!  Each article donates like a package of new socks, coats, hats, mittens, will be given a chance to enter the drawing.  Winners will be announced at the end of SOCK-tober!  All donations to the FACS room please!
